Becoming a SUNY Plattsburgh public relations major was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The hands-on experience with campaigns in classes is one thing, but being a member of PRSSA and being able to experience an event such as PRSA Day is something that I feel will help me down the road. This year’s theme, sports PR and marketing is perfect for me; I plan on pursuing work in the sports field.
The panel discussion was nothing short amazing. The speakers, Stephanie Dutton, Nicole Buckley, Steve Peters and Luke Cyphers not only gave concrete examples of how PR relates to what they do or have done in prior jobs, but they gave tips on how to succeed in many different situations. Specifically, I was able to connect with Buckley, who serves a director of player relations and event communication for the National Hockey League. As an avid hockey fan, we were able to discuss in-depth what her job entails, the game itself and opportunities to intern for the NHL.
Friday is part two of PRSA Day, and I can’t be more excited!
