miSci, the Museum of Innovation and Science is a non for profit museum full of hands on exhibits for all ages located in downtown Schenectady. It is also where I have been spending my summer internship.
Right before spring break I didn’t think I would have an internship, I was just finishing my first year as a PR student. Professor Jurek asked if anyone wanted to attend a breakfast with our parent chapter in Troy, so I went. At this breakfast I was the only student in attendance and met many PR professionals in the Capital Region. I mentioned that I was interested in miSci. I used to go to museum for field trips and birthday parties. Well, my name got passed along and a few days later the Marketing and Communications Director of the museum contacted me, offering my summer internship.
Working along side my supervisor, I have participated in event planning and hosting, a mass mailing with 18,000 recipients, created many flyers, wrote a feature article that was published with five colored photos in the Schenectady Gazette, attended luncheons with many powerful people in the Capital Region, and conducted surveys with museum goers.
I am very grateful I went out of my way one day. I have gotten to do a lot and had a great experience as the Marketing and Communications intern at miSci.
